Comments We dove with Sea Through Sea several times seeking oceanic whitetrip sharks for our film Kahu Mano, and other large pelagics. Jim Ward captain/owner is cheerful, professional and knows Kona waters. He is highly aware of safety with excellent briefings and clear instructions. We dived the 800 fathom line, diving the south FADS and buoys looking for OWTS. We encountered a pod of pilot whales and were able to get some open water video as they passed.
One boat was a charter with full access to whatever we wanted, and we ran far to the north. We didnt find an OWT at the north buoy but Jim speared a Mahi mahi and gave us fillets!
The other dive was a partial with tourists who patiently endured the blue water and then later dove a reef north of the Harbor with great reef fish, caves, sea turtles and patches of healthy coral. Kona has great freediving with en experienced guide like Jim and his mate was competent and fun.
