Comments Steve runs an excellent dive operation. We like the small boats, and the maximum of 6 was great. There were only 4 of us each day, plus our divemaster and Steve on board. Divemasters Bob and Cathy really know the area.

We had excellent visibility even though the water temp had dropped. Adding a vest on the second dive made a world of difference. The dives were all more than an hour. Whales singing made it even better! Conditions were right for Suck 'em Up and it's resident white tip. Skull Cave is fascinating with its topography and critters.

In addition to the usual cast of characters we found two frogfish, a small leaf scorpionfish, several nudis and flatworms, pipefish, medusas, some interesting corals and sponges, and a very photogenic octopus. Everyplace we went there was something to see. Even the eels posed for the cameras.

Topside we had dolphin escorts and whales close to the boat.

We would recommend Wanna Dive Kona without hesitation. Their price is right, they're conscientious, your gear is washed before you get it off the boat, and the interval snack was awesome! They have a new office above Honokohau Harbor.

Kona Reef is all about location. Rent through VRBO or one of the rental agencies. Be sure to check out the Alii Gardens Marketplace - try the Kona Natural Soap.

This is still one of our favorite places to spend a couple of weeks, without a doubt.
