Comments My husband and I met several family members at Anthony's Key Resort in June to take advantage of an ‘offseason’ sale A few things were less convenient than I would have liked. The rooms were lovely but on the actual ‘key’ which was a very short ferry ride across from the dive center, and the dining room was up the hill a bit. There is construction where the new site of the dining room area will be (nearer to shore), which might make it a bit easier for some but it didn't pose an issue for our group to climb the steps up the hill to eat. Waiters take your order and food is served at the table, except for breakfast which has both a walk up cold bar and hot sit down if you wish. Hats off to the dining hall staff and room staff as they were top notch. The setting of the little cabana rooms are charming and each has its own porch with hammocks. Watch out for biters, especially near the pool on the Key.
The diving: the water was quite warm, I started out wearing a 3 mil but ended up wearing a skin. We did 4 dives several days and three dives on a few days. Shore diving is difficult at Anthony's Key because one must take all your own gear across to the 'Key' (short ferry boat ride), carry it the length of the island and shore dive from there (tanks at little shack), then take everything back in reverse to the lockers. Another thing that could be made easier, IMO. Also, at the end of the dive day, everyone must rinse and stow their own equipment and take it back to the boat in the morning for set up before breakfast. Again, not an issue but not as 'valet' as some places I've been. The storage lockers are quite nice. The room where nitrox is analyzed is really hot and stuffy and could use a fan or two! Boat captain and divemasters were all safety conscious and helpful. We enjoyed the Odyssey Wreck Dive, the Bear's Den (silversides everywhere!), and most of all the Shark Dive off Maya Key at Cara Cara (which cost extra). There are still reef fish there (not too much big stuff), a few small turtles and we saw at a few small eagle rays, the coral seems to be healthy and the diving was great for our group of many different levels of divers. We saw Pilots Whales one afternoon on the way to a dive site, which was neat. We enjoyed our time at the resort and would recommend it.

UW Photo Comments Since there wasn't anywhere on the 'dive shop' mainland side to charge camera batteries I found it inconvenient that I had to go back and forth to the rooms to charge my dive camera's lights. The routine was: get off the boat after 2nd dive, ferry to "key", run to the room, plugin dive lights, run back to ferry across, eat lunch, check nitrox, ferry back and forth again. All this was hard to do in the lunch hour. Needless to say, this was somewhat exhausting and I gave up charging my lights after the second day. Not for serious photographers.
