Comments I didn't rate the accommodation as high knowing that the new Utila Aggressor II will be in service shortly. From all accounts it will be the future standard for Caribbean live aboard dive boats. The boat we were on worked well and was refit in 2005. No problems with gear or boat operation.
We stayed at the Laguna Beach Resort for a couple of days before and after being on the Aggressor and it was very nice. LBR has great boats and a nice dive setup. Standard dive resort with friendly people and good food. Not overly fancy but a great place. They took us to and picked us up from the Aggressor.
Weather impacted trip, no whale sharks, winds and rough water were the general conditions. Crew did everything possible to provide us with the most comfortable trip and to experience the best the area has to offer divers.
Most people wore 3 mm wetsuits and with 5 dive a day on the Aggressor or 4-5 dives a day at Laguna Beach Resort it was nice.
My personal favorites were the night dives with Nester who "took me to school" on finding critters at night. I am not new to diving but this guy showed me things I not only have never seen but after looking in the books I am still unsure of the actual identification. It was fantastic and I enjoyed every one of them.
I dive a lot in Cayman so lots of marine life were familiar to me but the reef is very healthy although the fish numbers seemed a bit down.
April is usually a good month for whale sharks and I will go again for sure. Staying at Laguna Beach Resort before and after the Aggressor.
