Comments This was our dive shops first trip since COVID shut down travel. This was easily one of the best-run operations I have been to as a dive instructor and I have sent many divers since.

Accommodations: As the group leader, my space was comp’ed by the group. I was very happy that CoCoView upgraded myself & my partner to an overwater bungalow. Very large room with wonderful views, and falling asleep to gentle waves is wonderful. Lots of space to lay out dive gear and clothes, with a good charging block there so it was easy to charge my camera & dive lights. Clothesline outside was very helpful. Only con is that the sandflies LOVE the hammock so wear long clothes to sit there. We were the farthest cabin, and it was nice & quiet, and still a quick walk to grab food or head to the dive shop.

Diving: Extremely professional. We were assigned CoCo II for the week, and the whole crew was lovely. Having easy gear storage with cubbies and hooks was quite helpful. Even better was their system for signaling if you were going on the dive boat, so they would load your gear for you. Their system for shore night dives is the best I have seen anywhere. They also had a night divemaster around to keep an eye on things. I felt very safe leaving my gear at the cubbies (although I took my camera & computer to my cabin). We did not have the best visibility while we were there, but overall it was still 50+ feet which is great. Reefs were in decent shape with lots of schools of small-medium size fish. No large life, 1 turtle. There is a boat dive in the morning, following by a drop-off dive, and then it repeats in the afternoon. I loved the drop off dives, and gave some of my inexperienced divers practice at navigating themselves (but still very easy as it’s a wall dive). Some divers found them repetitive though. Boats were large, stable, good camera station on board. Center boarding was a fun & useful option. Valley of Kings, Calvin’s Crack, & Mary’s Place were my favorite sites.

Food: This was the only point I feel could have been better. I appreciate that tea/coffee & snacks were always available. Some meals were wonderful (and they accommodated vegetarians) but others were a little lacking. Still filling and hot which is much needed after a big day of diving.

Random: On site dive shop has excellent staff and were able to help fix equipment in a timely manner. Mickey helped myself & several divers improve photography skills and was an incredible resource to have on-site. Nurse Andrea was helpful, and it is lovely to be able to help the community. Our whole trip brought lots of schools supplies down for her, so check in & see if there’s anything you can bring if you go!

Cons: the biggest issue in my opinion was the tipping. I work in this industry and have no problem tipping. However, it would have been great to know ahead of time that it was expected 15-20 per day per crew member on the dive boat- we were told 20/day roughly total. No one on our trip brought enough US cash and all got dinged 19% fee to use visa at the office, which was an unfortunate end to the trip. The staff work very hard and I don’t begrudge them the wage, but it was not clearly communicated despite my many emails about this from Pam.

Overall: Excellent set up for individuals or groups. Safety standards in particular were top notch. Not sure if we will be returning as a dive shop group yet but I recommend it to almost everyone.
