We'd been to Roatan 3 times before this but not since 2008. The west side reef are going downhill fast and West End's main drag is now cement (on the plus side they also brought in sewers). Also, the new grocery store Eldon's, outside Coxen Hole is a huge upgrade to the whole experience when you stay in condos like we do. Coconut isn't as fun as it used to be either - they have a few dive nazis on staff - but it's still easy and cheap. Good place to get certifications done (kids did ADV. while I watched the grandkid). Went over to CoCoView on the east side one day and, if/when we go back we're staying over there. Reefs were in much better condition and operation was much higher quality (and higher priced, of course). Took a private boat out to Cayos Cochinos one day to try to find the sea mounts - found a decent reef with tons of Lionfish (hunters bagged dozens) but wouldn't say it was something I'd repeat (no big fish). |
