Comments The Laguna Beach Resort (LBR) is a 10 minute boat ride from Utila Town. It is off by itself. Nice and quiet. The cabanas are very spacious and clean; each has its own little dock on the lagoon. The resort has a new, large pool shaped like a whale shark; it's a very nice addition. There is also a nice beach area. All meals are buffet style with the food tasty but not fancy.

We had a family group so we essentially had our own dive boat all week with the same divemaster and boat captain (Blythe and John). The dive boat was a 32' Newton so it was very spacious. The crew took care of the BC and regulators everyday including rinsing. Nice touch.

Blythe is an excellent dive guide providing good dive briefings doing her best to find critters to photograph. The 2 morning dives are on the north side with the opportunity for a whale shark encounter during the surface interval. We had a couple of encounters. The PM dive is on the south side.

The reef marine life seems to have diminished since I was last here in 2005. Too much local fishing and on-shore development.

The staff at LBR is very friendly and helpful. The owner and managers were especially helpful in retrieving a laptop left at the San Pedro Sula airport. Throughout our stay, they provided lots of personal attention.

The biggest negative at LBR are the no see'ums (sand fleas). They will eat you up.
I returned home with at least 2 dozen small, itchy welts all over my body.
