Comments Mango Creek Lodge consists of 6 cabanas built over the water. They are roomy and comfortable but not luxurious. The lodge excels at customer service and flexibility, so even though it mainly caters to sport fishing, it is nonetheless a great, remote, romantic place to go to dive. It also offers picnics, hiking, sailing, kayaking and snorkeling for those not wishing to dive, and the use of all of that equipment is included in the price. There is no dive shop at the lodge but the instructor, who lives nearby, is handy at repairs and happy to take your things to his house to fix them or to one of the many dive shops on the Island. Additionally, the lodge plans to build a shop soon! The lodge does not have rinse tanks but there were two good options. The first was the instructor/DM (Lief) was only too willing to take the gear to his house to clean and get it ready for the next day. The alternative was we could use the lodge's fresh water hose at dockside to rinse our gear, and on our last day, the the lodge personnel (of which there are many) hung a line for us to dry it. We had some unexpected rain and were cold gassing-off in the boat. No problem: Lief just changed our 2nd dive to the afternoon. (Two dives are included in the rate; a third is available for a nominal fee.) The boat is in excellent condition (with a canopy), but it isn't terribly comfortable; it accommodates 6 divers. We had it to ourselves and I suspect that's usually the case. The crew (driver and instructor) were very good at helping us gear up and get into the water. All gear was handed up after the dives. Water is provided on the boat but no snacks but I am sure if we had wanted some, there would have been some.

Our experience of diving in Honduras (four times) is all of the fish you see everywhere else in the Caribbean are there but not nearly as prolific. We didn't care - the topography is beyond fantastic. And because Mango Creek is so remote, the reefs and walls are pristine, colorful and beautiful. Another goody: we did not see another dive boat on a site the entire time we were there.

Instruction through open water certification is available. Perfect atmosphere and location for personalized instruction from a very affable English speaking Padi instructor. Being in our 70's, we loved the personalized service.
