I have been to Roatan before and stayed at Fantasy Island the last time there I felt that it was in need of upgrading/putting money back into resort,so now about Reefhouseresort.I am the type of person who likes to do nothing but dive and eat and sleep. So when I contacted Mike, the owner/groundskeeper/general hands on guy,He assured me that is what I'd get and he did NOT disappoint me.I flew in ahead of hurricane Richard on Sat.and it hit that night and Sunday. So we just sat around waiting for it to end,Mon morning up at 6:00am to enjoy sunrise and breakfest at 8:00a,diving at 9:00a for 2 tank dive, back at 12:30p for lunch and back out at 2:30p for last dive of the day, supper at 6:30p and in bed by 9:00p,pooped out!I got to stay for 2 weeks and dived every day.The resort has 11 regular rooms and 2 larger rooms,a large dining area, and small bar area.Payment for everything was honor system, write it down and pay at end of trip.Rooms are 2 beds, ceiling fan,ac,flat screen tv/sattilite and bathroom and shower.Everthing worked in my room and was adaquite.Mike is installing new back side windows and doors later this year. The food was outstanding and plentiful.
They had just got another dive boat and now have 2 that could handle way more people than I would ever dive with again.4 divers and 2 snokerels on the first week there and 4 people the next week, now that is my kind of diving.Boat captian Choco and dive master/lion fish killer,Davit were the best.Davit spotted many seahorse's and other small critter's.Good eye's,We spotted and killed at least 50-60 lionfish the 2 weeks that I was there.Davit took a couple of big ones home and cooked them up and said that they were very good.Seen lots and lots of juvinual reek fish, but a lack of larger Grouper and other's account of the local fishing pressure over the years, but it is getting better. We only seen 4 other dive boats while there and they were down by Calvin's Crack, too the east no one else another plus,so the coral and reefs were not as beat up as other places account of the many diver's.All I know is this is a great place to dive and I booked again before I left for Feb.2011
