Comments We were looking for a location that could accommodate our group of varied diving experience, from a beginner to several very experienced divers. Some of us had been to Roatan before and liked the combination of comfortable diving conditions with healthy reefs and lots to see. Turquoise Bay is on the north side of the island in a fairly remote area. Subway watersports is on site. The staff at both operations could not have been friendlier or more helpful, going out of their way to make sure we were happy and had what we needed. The dive operation is one of the better ones I have experienced. Everyone is assigned a boat for their stay, there are large, secure storage areas for equipment and staff loads and unloads the tanks, BCs, etc. All dive sites are a 10-15 minute boat ride, except for the day we went to the West End, which was an all-day trip. The owner of Turquoise Bay also owns the Mayan Princess resort so after our morning dives towards the west of the island we had lunch there and then a third dive as we traveled back to our resort. Dive briefings were detailed and the dive masters were attentive during the dives, pointing out interesting fauna and making sure the less experienced divers were comfortable. The only other dive boats we saw were from our resort.
Like so many places, the coral is suffering, but it's better here than other places I have been in the last 5 years. There's a coral restoration project on site and there's a lecture about the project each week and an opportunity to participate. The marine life is healthy and plentiful.
Overall, we had an excellent experience. Turquoise Bay is a bit smaller and more remote than some of the other resorts on the island, but that's a good thing. The service was very personal and attentive and the dive operation excellent.
