Comments This was my fourth trip to the Bay Islands and second time staying in West End. I have used Sueno del Mar Divers for both my stays in West End and think they have the best facilities in the area. I spent some time checking out the other operations in West End and I feel that Sueno offers the best value. My second choice would be Native Sons. Sueno has their own dock with the gear storage lockers, rinse tanks, and showers a few steps away from the boat. All the other dive operations I checked out required you to carry your gear from the shop across the road to the dock/boat. There is a full time dockmaster to help with gear problems and a decent shop on site. All the staff speaks English. It’s quite a mixed bag of nationalities working there; Filipino, Brit, Kiwi, Swiss, Welsh, Austrian and Hondurans.

The diving and visibility was much better than November. The reefs have seen some bleaching and the fish are not as plentiful as they were 5 years ago. There is still an opportunity to see some pretty good sites. The reef is extremely convenient to West End. Most boat rides are five minutes with the longest being fifteen minutes. Dives are the usual 45 minute dives with aluminum 80’s. Most shops do two morning dives and one afternoon dives. Because of the close proximity of the reef, the boats return to shore after each dive for the surface interval.

Nightlife in West End is decent but most people tuck it in about 10 pm. Sundowner is the local beach bar hangout that you can find most of the ex-patriots and more lively visitors at happy hour each day. Don’t miss Sunday Quiz night, the most popular weekly event.

The Sea Breeze Inn is your basic West End hotel. The rooms are basic and clean. You get a bed, a small TV with a couple channels, fan, small fridge and a hot plate. It’s convenient and cheap.
