Comments If you are looking for great diving and a relaxing vacation, Roatan has impressive reefs and marine life. Both our adult children were certified while travelling through Australia and had dived a fair amount, but they had not dived in a few years and required a refresher. My wife and I had dived one day in Roatan years ago, while our kids snorkelled above us during a shore excursion (cruise) and always wanted to return. Tranquil Seas is a very professional, friendly boutique, efficient, full service - valet dive operation, located walking distance from Anthony’s Key Resort. The most work you will have to do is climb up their boat ladder at the end of your dive. Roatan has a Bonaire-like feeling, in that the reef is right there, right in front of you. Our longest boat ride was 15 minutes max. Each dive site had unique coral formations, some pinnacles, several swim throughs and some looked like massive mountains under water which are just spectacular. Turtles, eels, rays and schooling fish are abundant. Lots and lots of lobster and big crabs too. The night dives were spectacular (octopi, crabs and lobsters). Tranquil seas has one boat (without a a Bimini Top to shade you (yet) but that is changing) and with the reef so close, we actually returned to the Resort for our surface interval to have fresh fruit and water or juice. We had a dive master assigned to just our family. When others dove with us, there was never more than 8 total divers on board or under the water. Once our dive master got an idea of our diving skills and buoyancy control, we were able to dive more individual dive profiles. Entries were back rolls off and a sturdy ladder was placed over the side to board the boat when we were finished our dives. The Boat Captain(s) were amazing and always on hand to help with anything. What I loved most about Tranquil Seas was how relaxed they were about scheduling our dives. Did we want to dive in the morning at 9 am or 11 am or afternoon at 2pm or evening dives. This is the charm of the small eco resort. Often I would dive with my daughter and son if my wife decided stay on land and do yoga. The food at the resort was so delicious and plentiful that if we return I don’t think we’ll do the all inclusive package as we often ended up ordering one entree and splitting it between two people. The accommodations were excellent and the vistas from the resort stunning. The beach in this part of Sandy Bay acts as road where the odd scooter or pick up truck would pass by or stop to deliver goods to the resort. This did not bother us (and they are replanting - re-introducing mangroves by the shore). Stunning spectacular beaches are located in West Bay where dive hotels and resorts are crammed together. If you are looking for lots of “action” and people you can certainly dive out of West Bay. The hotel has excellent long pier with a covered decks for enjoying the shade, snorkelling from and watching sunsets.
