Just returned to the snow from 4 days of diving in Key Largo. We stayed at Amy Slates’s Amoray Diver resort. What a great time! The motel itself is spread out over the property, with two docks, a small pool, beach and a Tiki bar. We stayed in a standard room (2 queen beds) fridge, coffee maker and microwave. The room was clean and recently redecorated. The beds were firm and conformable. The road noise was excessive with the windows open, but not detectable once the windows were closed. The diving was from their main boat (a large Cat). The trip to the reefs was quick despite being on the sound side of the Key. The Captains and mates were helpful and fun. Both mates were PADI instructors. The boat was in excellent condition, as were the tanks, weights and belts. I requested 100 CuFt. tanks with nitrox (personal preference, not required for these reefs) and was please to have them delivered each morning to the boat. A wet storage locker is located next to the rinse tank (perhaps 10 yards from the dock). The dive boat is large with 5 exits, and two large ladders for returning to the boat. On one day we had a group of 8 open water students, as well as 10 other divers; still lots of room on the boat. Water and fruit on board. Dry space is limited, so be considerate. Recommendations: Book in advance and don’t hesitate to make special requests. The front office staff is helpful and knowledgeable about food and drink in the area. The boat crews 1st rate and the reefs have an amazing array of life. |
