Comments We had never been to the Keys and decided to drive down with friends who live in Ft. Lauderdale. We arranged to dive two days, one in Islamorada and one in Key west. We arrived at Key Dives on time, and completed the requisite paperwork. We had all our own equipment save tanks and weights.

Boat accommodations were fine. This was a two tank morning dive to the “outer reef” as we are not enamored of wreck diving, and wanted to see sea life. Unfortunately there was very little sea life evident on either dive. Maybe three fish? No corals. Basically just a wasteland. The DM was completing a training with one of the divers and was primarily focused on that, although she did lead us around looking for anything interesting.

One item of note: when I entered the water on the first dive, my 2nd stage began to free flow and I could not stop it. The DM was in the water with me and turned off my air while I returned to the boat. I was assisted up and my equipment changed out quickly. Luckily they had plenty of rental gear on board. I needed a new BC as well as a new Reg as my 2nd stage is integrated. It was all handled quickly and efficiently and I was tested on inflating and deflating the new BC etc.

On the second dive of the day I took off my 5 ML (totally unnecessary in that water) and enjoyed diving in just a skin for the first time.
I did use my own equipment the next day in Key West with no issues.

I would rate the operation highly but the dive sites were a poor choice, unless that is all there is to see.
