Comments Living in CT I decided to go with two buddies to dive at Fort Wetherill in Jamestown Rhode Island which was said to have some of the better diving in the Northeast. There was ample parking, even some dive benches to set up your equipment and there was a boat ramp for easy entry. We planned to dive along a wall on the side of the cove. Unfortunately, upon descending we found that the visibility was about 3 feet. We immediately lost contact with one of our trio and had to surface to reunite. We then descended again and Cory, our most experienced buddy secured and then deployed a wreck line behind him as he swam along the wall with the remaining two following along. Given that I could barely see to the end of my fingers, I can report that I saw a yellow wreck line and then after that ran out, an orange wreck line during the dive! Still, in spite of the awful visibility, the cove was calm and it was a good learning experience, making me interested in acquiring the skill of deploying lines such as is taught to penetrating wreck and cave divers. This site is a very popular spot for dive shops to do their certification and advanced open water dives, but if the visibility is as poor as it was on our dive I can't imagine having a successful class under these conditions
