Comments We drove down to Morehead City from Long Island, NY. We had arranged for five days of two tank boat diving with Olympus Dive Center, and accommodations at the Olympus Dive Center “Dive Lodge”. The Dive lodge was just a bunkhouse, rustic but clean, some rooms having 4 bunks and some having 8. If you don’t mind sharing a bathroom and showers with other people, and bunking with up to 8 people in a room, then it is definitely worth the $20/night. The dive operation and boat were very good. The main problem is the weather: out of the five days, the first two were blown out due to heavy swells. And on the last three days, it was certainly dive-able but still rough. The wrecks were great, though it was too rough to go out to the deepest ones, 100ft deep and deeper. But even the shallower wrecks, 50-90 ft deep, were covered with massive amounts of fish, including sand tiger sharks on every dive. The best of the shallower wrecks that we visited was the Caribsea, at about 90 ft. North Carolina is definitely worth a dive trip, but it has to be understood that conditions offshore are unpredictable, and you have to be prepared for canceled boat trips. On good days, the wreck diving here is incredible.
