Comments We picked Rainbow Reef since they have a scheduled dive master in the water on each dive, which, to me, should be standard. The first dive was on the Spiegel Grove, which is one of the signature dives of Key Largo. The surface current was ripping and we had to pull ourselves up to the bowline, & down to the wreck. Viz was about 50 feet & the current lessened on the wreck. I saw the largest Goliath grouper I had ever seen along with many large barracuda. The return to the boat was an adventure in the ripping current. I had my Nautilus lifeline with me & was glad I did if I had missed the line. The second days dives included the Christ of the Abyss which was ok. The shallow reefs had a good many lobsters, barracuda, and fairly good small critters. The second day was pretty much a cattle boat, but it happens everywhere at times. We only dived two days, so I really don't think we got a fair view of Rainbow Reef. The boats are good, but on the second day of the cattle boat, there were too many divers of different skill levels, grouped together. I waited for the dive master 20 minutes under the boat as she had to coax & help,a new diver get down. All in all, Key Largo is fun & the diving is ok to good.
I've been spoiled by Caymans, Bonaire, etc.
