February 16, 2007You want to protect the ocean, for sure, so if you're a fish eater you need to avoid a whole range of fish that will be goners if we keep consuming them. Another Free Diving Hazard. February 16, 2007A man doing a little winter free diving in Smith River, near Reedsport, Oregon, was shot in the head by another man who said he mistook the snorkeler for a nutria, a large, water-dwelling rodent. The shooter, William Roderick, was charged with assault, and the snorkeler remains in serious condition at Portland Hospital; . Roderick said he grabbed a rifle and shot at the rodent from a deck overlooking the water, but when he realized he had shot a man, he helped pulled him from the water.
